Background
Expansion of an established London Jazz club to incorporate a trendy street café at the front, leading patrons through to the Jazz club behind, meant that the shop in front was knocked through to reveal the existing Jazz Bar at the rear.
Challenge
It was essential that the two areas blended seamlessly, meaning that the furniture and fittings of the new space needed to replicate and complement the existing space. The architect was specific about the treatment of the oak furniture and emphasized the importance of the established ‘key’ theme that had to be incorporated in an obvious and tasteful way. The challenge was to create a harmonious retro feel.
Solution
Working with quality 80mm thick solid oak, specialist finishers applied aging techniques to the finished furniture to achieve the desired authentic effect. This included the café counter, a 4m bench table, twelve 4-seater tables, and fifty individual bench seats. 3D acrylic ceiling and wall panels incorporated the ‘key’ theme, and ancillary items such as wine racks and fitted shelves continued the color theme, with orange acrylic providing the perfect backdrop to white shelving systems. A music-themed feature graphic wall was installed, completing the look.
Designing a lively café where people can relax, enjoy a coffee, and chat in a charming retro setting.
