At Frem, we keep a close eye on how the office furniture world is changing. We track new trends, study how people work, and listen to what clients need so we can stay ahead of the curve. Companies are rethinking how teams meet, focus, and move through their day, and we look at how thoughtful design can support all of this. When an office is planned well, it boosts focus and engagement, which lifts productivity in a way that feels positive and holistic rather than forced.
We have focused on 6 key trends which are shaping the UK office interiors in 2026 and beyond:
1. Softer, smarter shapes.
The shift toward rounded corners and organic forms continues, but it has gone a step further. Frem’s up-and-coming new meeting and boardroom tables show how far designers are pushing shape to influence behaviour.
Organic shapes are reflected across our latest design offerings, including the Ripple reception desks in our Impressions collection, with their fluid, free-flowing lines, and our Alina sofas in our soft seating range, characterised by gentle, underlying curves that enhance both comfort and visual appeal. Organic shapes are increasingly shaping the look and feel of modern office furniture, moving away from rigid lines and harsh angles in favour of softer, more fluid forms. Rounded corners and gentle curves not only reduce the risk of bumps and knocks, making workspaces safer, but also create a more relaxed, human-centred environment. Curved furniture encourages natural movement and visual flow through a space, helping offices feel less segmented and more intuitive to navigate. These softer silhouettes are inherently more inviting, subtly echoing residential design and supporting a sense of comfort and wellbeing—an important shift as workplaces continue to prioritise both functionality and emotional experience.
2. Surfaces with purpose.
Material innovation is reshaping how pieces look and perform. Lighter engineered cores, recycled composites, and mixed material panels allow slimmer profiles without losing strength. These substrates also help manufacturers cut waste and reduce cost, which matters in projects with tight budgets and high sustainability targets. We work closely with leading MFC suppliers who offer high-quality, sustainable materials with strong recycled content. Our workshops are fully equipped to manufacture using a wide range of materials, giving us the flexibility to deliver consistent quality across diverse specifications.

3. Sustainability front and centre.
Most clients now expect clear answers on environmental impact. We only use suppliers who are FSC registered. Many brands share full material breakdowns and carbon data, turning sustainability from a checkbox into a design driver. Emphasis on durability and products with a long lifecycle, including take-back and refurbishment schemes are essential credentials for any business. Customers also expect companies in the office furniture world to have certifications like BREEAM for their bricks and mortar and ISO certifications. It sets the standard for best practice in sustainable design.
4. Acoustic solutions built into the furniture.
Open offices still dominate, yet noise remains a major issue. This has pushed acoustic performance into the spotlight. Caimi’s Snowsound acoustic products are a strong example. Their panels, ceiling baffles and coverings control sound with impressive efficiency while delivering clean, architectural lines. Designers are using them to blend acoustic control into screens, walls, and shared zones so the space feels calm without looking technical. This also helps when prioritising employee physical and mental health, as sound-absorbing panels, including acoustic pods, are essential for managing noise in open-plan offices and libraries, providing quiet zones for focus or private calls.
5. Technology that works quietly in the background
Smart tech is now an expected part of the workspace. Teams can share content quickly, annotate ideas on the fly, and connect with remote colleagues without fighting with cables or adapters. Furniture is being shaped around this tech, so everything feels seamless.
6. Flexible & Agile Workspaces
The traditional “one desk per person” model is increasingly being replaced by dynamic, reconfigurable workplace layouts. As attendance patterns evolve, organisations are adopting hot-desking and touchdown areas, reducing desk provision per employee while making more efficient use of space. Desk designs have to work harder and many offices now allow employees to stand at their desks, encouraging more movement, and healthier workspace environments.
Together, these shifts reflect a workplace moving towards greater comfort, clarity and flexibility, enabled by better materials, smarter tools and more considered design.
Modular furniture and movable partitions that allow spaces to be quickly adapted for different needs, from individual-focused work to group collaboration. Activity-based working (ABW) zones, such as quiet pods, huddle rooms, and informal lounge areas, allow employees to choose a setting that best suits their current task.
Collaborative workspaces now play a central role in this evolution. Many showrooms are no longer just display environments; they are opening their doors as shared, collaborative spaces where other businesses can meet, work and connect.
